At Kamcare

We envision healthy, thriving communities where individuals have the opportunity to grow and reach their full potential. We are committed to supporting communities in taking an active role in changing their own lives through sustainable development.

Our offices are located in a semi-rural area, surrounded by smallholdings and several informal settlements. Many of the people living in these areas face extreme poverty. Basic infrastructure is lacking, unemployment and illiteracy rates are high, and children have limited access to safe spaces, education, and nutrition.

In response to these challenges, Kamcare takes a practical, hands-on approach. One of our key initiatives is our School Sandwich Program, which provides nutritious meals to primary school children in need. This simple but essential support helps children focus in class, grow stronger, and feel cared for—one sandwich at a time.

POORT SANDWICHES

Every Tuesday, dedicated volunteers from our local community come together to provide lunchboxes for children in need at Die Poort Primary School. For many of these learners, this is the only nutritious meal they receive that day.

Each lunchbox includes a sandwich, a piece of fruit, and a small treat—simple, wholesome items that go a long way in supporting focus, energy, and well-being during the school day. Beyond nutrition, the program also brings a sense of consistency, care, and dignity to children who face daily hardship.

This initiative is made possible by the generosity of community members who donate their time, ingredients, and hearts to ensure no child feels forgotten. It’s a small act with a big impact, and a beautiful example of what happens when a community comes together.

Vegetable gardening and training

Through this project, Kamcare has partnered with Farmer’s Kids to empower families with practical, sustainable skills. The goal is simple but powerful: to teach small-scale vegetable farming that can feed families and generate income.

Participants learn how to grow fresh, nutritious vegetables in limited spaces—right in their own backyards or communities. By producing their own food, families can reduce their reliance on external support and improve their daily nutrition. Surplus produce can then be sold, creating a much-needed source of income.

The training also includes basic entrepreneurial skills, helping participants to turn small harvests into growing opportunities. This hands-on initiative not only fights poverty but also promotes independence, dignity, and long-term community resilience.

As part of our broader food security efforts, 5,465 food parcels have also been prepared and distributed to families in need—ensuring immediate relief while longer-term solutions take root.

Material need

At Kamcare, we believe in standing beside families during times of crisis. When urgent needs arise, we provide blankets, food, and clothing to help ease the burden.

So far, 1,715 blankets have been distributed to vulnerable families facing hardship.

While offering this support, we also aim to connect these families with our long-term development services—such as vegetable garden training and skills development courses—so they can build toward a more stable and hopeful future.

In addition to individual support, we help many community members with warm clothing—especially during the harsh winter months. To stretch resources even further, we host an annual jumble sale where excess donated items from the previous year are sold at extremely low prices.

This initiative not only raises funds for Kamcare’s work but also empowers the local community. Some people purchase items for personal use, while others buy them to resell within their neighbourhoods, generating small incomes and supporting micro-enterprise.
