In 2006, the Dutch Reformed Church of Kameeldrift near Roodeplaat Dam on the outskirts of Pretoria, began engaging with the realities of the surrounding community.

 

Amidst the area's natural beauty and affluence, they discovered widespread poverty, unemployment, broken families, and violence especially in the many informal settlements in the area.  Many children lacked access to education, and the community was deeply wounded.  

Yet, they also encountered people eager to bring healing and hope. This inspired dreams of creating a space for restoration and empowerment, especially for the youth.  With this in mind, Kamcare was established as a vehicle to address these issues and to make a difference not only in our own community, but also wider, for this city and country.  

It began as a small but determined initiative, driven by a vision of restoration, dignity, and hope Kamcare seeks to serve the vulnerable — to support broken families, care for the wounded, and provide opportunities for those trapped in cycles of poverty and despair.
